PKDA Announces Australian Research Funding Opportunities

Polycystic Kidney Disease Australia are pleased to invite applications for the following research grants which will support leading Australian research that aims to provide a deeper understanding of PKD and/ or improves the outlook and quality of life for PKD patients. These grants will assist in our mission of finding a cure for PKD and helping the community we support.

3 x grants up to the value of $30,000 (over 12 months)

PKD Australia and US PKD Foundation co-funded two-year Research Grant for a total of USD$160,000 (USD$80,000 per year)

Applications close 6 January 2020

This will be awarded for research conducted in Australia, provided a suitable application is submitted by an Australian researcher.

Our foundations are committed to supporting basic, translational and clinical research that will benefit patients with ARPKD and ADPKD, accepting research grant applications in the following areas:

  • Basic research – to enhance understanding of molecular basis of PKD and its pathobiology
  • Translational research – to accelerate the development of therapeutic strategies for PKD
  • Clinical research – small pilot studies
  • Epidemiology/data analysis research – to conduct secondary data analyses utilizing existing database resources, or to develop new statistical methodologies or test hypotheses using existing data


Special consideration will be given to proposed research in the following areas:

  • Autosomal Recessive PKD (ARPKD)
  • PKD in children
  • Biomarker discovery and validation
  • Readout assays for modeling of PKD pathway activity
  • Innovative techniques to apply gene therapy to PKD
  • Dietary interventions
  • PKD therapeutic drug delivery
